Otago Portal Upgraded PDF Print E-mail

The Otago University node has been upgraded to ver 0.7.0.1 of OpenSimulator.  The Auckland and WelTec nodes will be upgraded in the following days.

0.7 represents a significant upgrade in the OpenSimulator project.  If you are interested in the details of what has been improved, please take a look at the official release notes.  Please note that this software is still in alpha development mode, and so you may experience some bugs along the way.

Issues to note after upgrade:

  1. You will likely find that your avatar has gone back to the default female avatar appearance ("Ruth").  You can change this by following the instructions here.
  2. You may not be able to log into your home region.  The simplest way to fix this is to log in to "Woodhaugh" at start up.  To do this, follow the instructions here.

Melanie Middlemiss, Dept of Information Science, University of Otago, will be presenting details of the NZVWG at the eResearch@Otago event coming up on 20th October.  Slides from the presentation will be availble after the event.

eResearch@Otago is a bi-annual event where researchers from Otago and Southland can come together to share brief presentations about their projects and activities, focusing on the benefits gained through the use of technology to support and advance their Research.  More information about the event is available here.

Progress is being made into configuration and setup of the NZVWG.  Otago and Auckland Universities will be the first to host virtual world grids that will be part of the NZVWG.  Keep an eye out for more news soon...
